Everyone seems to like stupid criminal stories.
Wanted by police in Maine for theft of a wood stove, Christopher Wallace announced his location on Snapchat. One of his trusty followers was kind enough to report it to police.
While the police were searching his girlfriend’s home, a bit over confident he posted again on Snapchat that he was hiding in a cabinet.
“While the deputies/officers were wrapping up their search, Wallace posted again on Snapchat. This time he posted that the police were searching for him in the house, and that he was hiding in a cabinet. Again, we received phone calls.” Somerset County Sheriff’s Office posted on it’s own Facebook page.
“A search of the kitchen cabinets turned up some food, some pots and pans, and also a pair of feet,” the police explained on the Facebook page. “The pair of feet just so happened to be attached to a person, and that person was Christopher Wallace. He was removed from the cabinet, and placed under arrest.”
From The Bangor Daily News, FAIRFIELD, Maine — A man Somerset County sheriff’s deputies had been seeking in connection with a January burglary at remote sporting camp made it easy for police to arrest him on Sunday after he posted his hiding location on a social networking app.
Christopher Wallace, 24, had apparently used Snapchat to post that he was at a Fairfield residence, which prompted the public to contact the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, according to a posting on the department’s Facebook page.
With assistance from Fairfield police, Corporal Richie Putnam and Deputy Ron Blodgett searched the house to no avail, but another Snapchat posting by Wallace revealed he was hiding in a cabinet and that police were looking for him. Again, police received several phone calls about his latest Snapchat post.
A subsequent search of kitchen cabinets led police to Wallace, and he was removed and placed under arrest.
In addition, a female at the residence, Erika Hall, 20, was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension as she repeatedly told police that Wallace was not in the house and that she had not seen him in weeks.
Wallace had been wanted in connection with a burglary at a camp in Pierce Pond Township. A propane cook stove and a cast iron wood stove had allegedly been stolen from the camp.
Maine Forest Rangers had learned of the burglary while investigating unrelated fuel thefts from the same location.
Wallace and Hall were transported to the Somerset County Jail after their arrests.
Everyone loves a fool. To add insult to injury, Wallace’s face and story of his stupid criminal tricks have now graced news outlets around the world.
