Bugging device with recorder and microphone was discovered in the union staff lounge at LG Chem, South Korea’s leading chemical firm (part of LG). The company was in the process of negotiating salaries at the time of the discovery.

Union members asked LG to make a formal apology. In response, LG Chem clarified that installation of the device was not directed by LG but it was carried out by individuals who were responsible for labor negotiations.

The company said it will take due disciplinary action anyone found to be responsible for installation of the eavesdropping device and that they will publicize the results.
Union negotiations are just one of many common business activities that tempt people to eavesdrop.
