By definition, a premeditated attack on anyone or any location always has some type of planning and surveillance taking place.
In a world filled with tension and division and an abundance of conspiracy theories, you may not always know who your adversary is, but you should always expect that they are out there and may be watching or listening, observing your activities, plans, and schedules. This can apply to corporations, executives, and individuals as well.
In a bizarre incident in the UK, a killer installed a microphone to listen to his neighbor’s home and eavesdropped on them for a year before murdering them with crossbow and then taking his own life.
Anthony Lawrence knocked down a wall in a shared attic space between their two homes, and removed a hallway light bulb before lying in wait for his victims to return home one evening.
Before shooing the victims, council worker Shane Gilmer and girl friend Laura Sugden, Lawrence told them he had been listening to them for a year.
Police confirmed this after finding a listening device with a microphone attached to the living room wall.
After a manhunt, Lawrence’s body was found in a camper van having taken an overdose of painkillers.
The victims had complained about cannabis smell coming from Lawrence’s property and police also found he had been growing marijuana there. Lawrence had been given notice to vacate his home the following month, and police think he may have blamed his neighbors for his eviction.
Investigation revealed that he had also taken a number of steps that indicate his activity was premeditated. Along with renting the camper van, he had also disconnected his phone service, left his wallet, driver’s license, and bank card behind, and had taken the painkillers with him.
If you are tasked with protection of another, whether an executive, celebrity, high net worth individual, or just concerned about your own safety, you should always be aware of your surroundings. Note anything out of place as well as any peculiar behaviors of those nearby.
